Where are you looking for you next job?

In the fast-paced world of B2B events, finding the right job can be as challenging as organising a successful conference. With multiple platforms available for job seekers, from LinkedIn to recruitment agencies and traditional job boards, it’s important to understand where candidates are having the most success in their job search.

As a Recruiter for 30 years (15 of which have been in b2b events recruitment) I’ve witnessed the evolution of job search strategies firsthand. While I’ve built a strong candidate database and received a steady stream of CVs via my website over the past decade, I’ve also relied on job boards like Reed, Indeed, Guardian, and Total Jobs over the years. However, I was curious to hear directly from event professionals about where they’ve found the best opportunities.

In a recent LinkedIn poll, I asked B2B event professionals: Where have you had the most success finding a new position? Here’s how the responses stacked up:

  • LinkedIn – 51%
  • Via a Recruitment Agency – 43%
  • Job Board – 6%
  • Google – 0%

LinkedIn Reigns Supreme

With 51% of respondents crediting LinkedIn as their primary job-finding tool, it’s clear that the platform remains the go-to resource for event professionals. This aligns with broader trends across industries, as LinkedIn continues to dominate professional networking and job searching. The ability to connect directly with hiring managers and recruiters, join industry-specific groups, and apply for roles with ease makes it an invaluable tool.

The Power of Recruitment Agencies

Interestingly, 43% of participants found their next role through a recruitment agency, highlighting the continued importance of personalised job placement. In B2B events, where niche experience and networking are crucial, having a recruiter advocate for your skills can make all the difference. Agencies can also provide tailored job opportunities, industry insights, and career guidance that job boards simply can’t match.

Are Job Boards Losing Their Edge?

Only 6% of respondents found their job through a traditional job board. While platforms like Reed, Indeed, and Guardian Jobs still play a role, it seems they are becoming less effective for event professionals compared to LinkedIn and agency placements.

For B2B event professionals, the job search landscape is evolving. LinkedIn and recruitment agencies are leading the way, offering not only job listings but also networking opportunities and tailored placements. If you’re looking for your next role, focusing on LinkedIn engagement and building relationships with expert recruiters in your space might just be the key to landing your dream job.
