Women at Work

In the response to Deloitte’s Women @ Work 2022 report, it clearly highlights the pandemic continues to take a heavy toll on women, with burnout reaching alarmingly high levels.

The Global report surveyed 5,000 women across 10 countries and sectors to better understand how women’s experiences in the workplace impact their engagement and career progression.

The report surmised the pandemic continues to impact women: burnout, for one, has reached high levels and lots of women have made career and life decisions driven by their experiences during the pandemic—for some this has meant finding new alternative and more flexible working patterns; for others it has meant leaving their employer or the workforce entirely.

The report shares 5 key steps employers can take to support women in the workplace.

1.       Address the burnout epidemic – Almost half women surveyed feel burned out, and burnout is the top reason why women want to leave their jobs.

2.       Make mental wellbeing a priority – over 50% of women reported their stress levels are higher than a year ago, and almost 50% described their mental health as poor/very poor.

3.       Make flexible working work for women – 94% of women believed requesting flexible working will affect their chances of promotion. This is not just about policies—it’s about organizations making a clear commitment to employees who wish to work flexibly.

4.       Approach hybrid working with inclusion and flexibility in mind – women are already experiencing exclusion and lack of predictability in the hybrid environment.

5.       Instil a truly inclusive cultureThe highest-ranking action from the Deloitte report was for employers to offer a ‘respectful and inclusive workplace culture’.

Women @ Work 2022 report Deloitte surveyed 5,000 women across 10 countries and sectors between November 2021 and February 2022.
